District Commander's Commendation For CommSafe Community Safety Officer

Community Champion Mary Moore
Mandy Merson stands with some of the NZ Police team she works with

Mandy Merson, Community Safety Officer for CommSafe (Neighbourhood Support in Te Awamutu), was recently awarded with a prestigious District Commander's Commendation from New Zealand Police!

"Mandy is contracted by CommSafe to facilitate Neighbourhood Support activities in the Waipā District, where she has been working part-time in a mostly volunteer capacity since 2021.

She has built strong partnerships that have been instrumental in assisting Rural Support Officers and other police staff in resolving crimes and gathering critical evidence to support investigations.

Her extensive knowledge and deep-rooted connections within the rural sector have enabled her to establish an intelligence network that is invaluable in crime prevention, detection, and resolution across the Waikato Western Area and beyond.

Expanding beyond the Waipā area, Mandy has extended her crime prevention efforts to include Otorohanga, Waitomo, and Waikato territorial local authorities, helping establish support networks and spread crime prevention messaging across multiple communities.

In addition to her work with CommSafe and Neighbourhood Support, Mandy is an active patroller with the Te Awamutu Community Patrol. Her involvement extends beyond patrolling - she plays a key role in recruiting and retaining volunteers.

Mandy's commitment to crime prevention, community engagement and volunteerism makes her a truly deserving candidate for this award."

— Superintendent Scott Gemmell, Acting District Commander Waikato.

A framed DCC Award certificate detailing Mandy's work in the community.

"I was very humbled, had a little tear once I got off the stage. They had put in so much effort to get me there and my husband was there in the row behind and I didn't even know till after the award was presented. So I felt really appreciated by the team. Very sneaky...."

— Mandy Merson

Congratulations Mandy, we appreciate all your hard work, passion and commitment to Neighbourhood Support and the wider community!
