Operations

Mahi

This section provides helpful information and templates for Coordinators who are doing the mahi of Neighbourhood Support for their organisations. (See also the Comms + Marketing section for further resources).

Getting People Involved

Keeping People Involved

Once people have joined Neighbourhood Support it is important to keep them connected and involved with regular communication, ideas and events.

For Social Media resources check out the Comms + Marketing section.

Prevention Messaging

Each Monday NZ Police email an Intel Report to our member organisations.  This report contains information about crime in your area and can be used to help you keep your groups and households safe and informed.

Please reach out to kelsey@neighbourhoodsupport.co.nz if you or someone in your organisation has not yet completed the intel training or would like a refresher. The training session covers what the reports are, how to use the spreadsheet and formatting the data into prevention messages for newsletters and alerts.

Community Engagement & Promoting NS

A key part of our work is community engagement.  We can engage our communities and promote Neighbourhood Support through events, projects, networking, and building relationships etc.

Databases

CommBase:

CommBase (previously 'Gets Ready') is a website (and mobile app) that provides an online database platform to support Neighbourhood Support Groups, the EOC (emergency operations centre), council staff and the community. This is relevant across day to day life, minor incidents (boil water notices or fire bans etc.) and major incidents (earthquakes, floods, fires etc.). Its primary facets are:

  • Tools to communicate via multiple channels to everyone, or to specific areas or categories of people

  • A network of contacts in the community

  • A self-managing and growing database of the entire community

  • The ability for situation reports to be sent from the community to the EOC in a structured manner

Top of the South Neighbourhood Support have kindly put together the following training guides to assist their staff and volunteers with using / managing the database. Feel free to use these as a template to personalise these documents to suit your local needs.
