About the event

Each month Neighbourhood Support New Zealand launches a national campaign where we focus on a theme or topic relevant to the time of year or which ties in with another extensive campaign in the community. The idea behind this is that by having one common mission, our members and supporters can come together at a national-level and focus on a single cause, allowing us to maximise our impact.

How members and supporters take part is completely up to the individual or group! You may want to simply share our posts on Facebook or organise an event / project that ties in with the theme. These campaigns are not meant to replace the work our organisations already perform, but rather provide another opportunity to raise awareness for important issues and show others what Neighbourhood Support is all about.

The Joy of Giving - December 1st to 31st

This month we want to challenge our members to come together and give generously and from the heart to help those in need this holiday season. With so much going on this time of year it’s easy to get caught up in the festivities and forget about those having a difficult time.

From widows and elderly neighbours with no one to celebrate with to single mothers and those with disabilities struggling to just get by, reach out to someone who could use a helping hand and remind them what the holiday spirit is all about! Other ideas include fundraising for a local charity of your choice, doing a food or clothes drive, organising a ‘Secret Santa’ gift exchange amongst your neighbours or even a community-wide Christmas lunch.

This month also coincides with International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3rd.

Let us know how you’re giving back in your community this holiday season by tagging us in your posts + using the following hashtag so we can see what you get up to:
