Governance

Manawhakahaere

Governance is about the oversight required to ensure that an organisation is being run properly. This responsibility usually sits with a Board or Executive Committee, which is appointed for this purpose.

In general, the Board or Executive Committee will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring the organisation meets it's legal obligations

  • Ensuring the finances of the organisation are accounted for

  • Being a good employer to any staff

  • Setting the strategic goals and direction of the organisation

We have put together some resources to help answer some of the most commonly asked questions about governance responsibilities.

Useful Resources

Constitutions

NSNZ Board are in the process of updating their Constitution to ensure it complies with new legislation. Following up on member feedback, NSNZ have also had discussions with legal advisors around providing a template for NSNZ member organisations to utilise as a guideline. Advice received is that this would be a major conflict of interest due to any potential future issues arising around advice given – even in good faith. The implications are not something that had been considered, but obviously this advice has been taken on board.

Further to in-house discussions with members, space has been created below for members to share both updated and draft constitutions so that other members can compare with their own requirements and work in progress.

Whilst these updated constitutions will be available online with an Incorporated Societies Register Search, we hope this will make the process a little easier, please email Kirsty directly with any updates you’d like to share kirsty@neighbourhoodsupport.co.nz
