Hi everyone, Hope you all enjoyed your long weekend! In Marlborough, we're lucky because we get 2 in a row! Monday 2 November is Marlborough Anniversary Day!
I have been invited to the Marlborough Youth Trust Over 18's dinner on Thursday evening to talk about the NS Youth Strategy. Does anyone have any resources/ suggestions/ ideas/ helpful hints for me to use on Thursday please? This is the first time I'm making a connection with them. The visual is my starting point but the small writing in the middle is very hard to read. I know I want to ask them "How do they want to connect with, and participate in, their local community and neighbourhoods?" And then listen! But I'd love to hear from anyone who has connected with Youth in their area. Thanks!
Hi Charlotte. I can send you the draft strategy. It's still in draft, so the document isn't ready to be shared yet, but it might give you some talking points.
Thank you Tess. I had a very positive response from the young adults on Thursday night. I took a large roll of paper and asked for them to make notes of their ideas. I then received a very enthusiastic email response from one the attendees which I'll act on. Exciting new ventures ahead!!!
Hi Charlotte. sorry I just saw this message. It sounds like your meeting went very well which is great. Look forward to hearing how it develops from here 😀
Update for everyone.... last year I had 2 consultation meetings with members of the Youth Trust. Together, we have decided to develop a gardening initiative which ties in nicely with this year's Neighbours Day Aotearoa theme . We are going to plan, build and plant window boxes/ planters, both at the Youth Centre and at locations where elderly residents live. They will be at a height for people who can't kneel or bend down to the ground. Each resident will choose their own plants eg herbs, veggies or flowers. The young adults are also keen to invite elderly residents to the Youth Centre for "Tea & Tech", a cuppa and the chance to experience/learn some new technological skills. Cool hey?!
